Araw ng Kagitingan

    

    The Battle of Bataan was fought by the United States and the Philippines Commonwealth against Japan during World War II. The battle represented the most intense phase of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines during WW2.

    Araw ng Kagitingan, also known as Day of Valor is when we commemorate the Fall of Bataan to Japanese troops during the second World War. It falls every 9th of April, although in 2009, it was moved to the 6th of April to avoid it clashing with Maundy Thursday. Araw ng Kagitingan was previously called Bataan Day, due to Bataan’s relevance in World War 2.

 Vigan City Fiesta Celebration in the New Normal      It is important to celebrate and have fun, but unfortunately, it doesn’t come without its risks.      The new normal is a burden we all have to deal with, and is also limits us to be able to properly celebrate fiestas and whatnot. I understand that it is an important tradition and celebration to many, but to be safe, I don’t think it is worth the risk of still getting the virus.      However, it is still possible but only if people follow the proper safety precautions, such as getting vaccinated, wearing a facemask, making sure to wash their hands, and trying to stay a distance away from other people.     If you can avoid it, then it is probably best to, in order to keep safe. It is still possible to celebrate a fiesta at home.

     The Lenten season is an important religious observance to the Christian Filipinos because it is a season to reflect on the suffering of Christ.      Lent of kwaresma is the season where the Filipino people set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ’s passion, suffering, death, burial, and resurrection. It begins on Ash Wednesday, which is the practice of blessing ashes made from palm branches that came from Palm Sunday and placing them on the forehead of the devotee in the form of a cross. It lasts about 40 days. The word Lent is a shortened form of the old English word lencten, which means “spring season”. Thus why the Lenten season happens before Easter.      Some Filipinos will choose to fast during this season on Ash Wednesday until God Friday, and eat only one meal a day.
