Image
"Binatbatan Festival of the Arts: A tapestry of culture and arts woven by a miracle"       Binatbatan Festival is a Filipino festival of the arts originated in Vigan City that is celebrated yearly from the last week of April to the first week of May.      Binatbatan, the word itself, is the process of beating cotton pods to remove the seeds for Abel weaving. The Binatbatan Festival was introduced in 2002 to be part of the festival to commemorate the Abel Iloco hand-loom weaving industry. The Binatbatan street dance is one of the main attractions during the week-long celebration. It is connected the Vigan’s Abel Iloco craft. The dance depicts how cotton is beaten with bamboo sticks to release the cotton fluff, called batbat, from its seed.      In summary, the Binatbatan Festival commemorates the Abel Iloco craft, and its dance depicts separating cotton from seed with bamboo sticks.

Third Quarter Reflection

Image
(Car Seat Headrest, my current favorite band) Third Quarter Blues    When the third quarter was rolling in, one of my thoughts were "Finally, we're halfway there." and now we are nearing the fourth quarter. Nearing the end of this school year. What a nightmare.      This is the quarter where we finally got news of opening face to face classes again. I am incredibly tired. I feel as if I am getting worse at managing everything once again. The first and second quarters weren't a huge trouble for me luckily, but recently I've been failing to manage my time properly.      What does this mean for me? Pain. What does this mean for my teachers? Also pain, because I am bad at doing things. I don't know if I have much to reflect on. I've been making some music occasionally, so that's something. I learned just as much as I did the previous quarters, and the previous year, that being, not that much to be honest. I don't care too much, which might be disappoi...

Draft 3 - Araw ng Kagitingan

Image
Araw ng Kagitingan           The Battle of Bataan was fought by the United States and the Philippines Commonwealth against Japan during World War II. The battle represented the most intense phase of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines during WW2.      Araw ng Kagitingan, also known as Day of Valor is when we commemorate the Fall of Bataan to Japanese troops during the second World War. It falls every 9 th of April, although in 2009, it was moved to the 6 th of April to avoid it clashing with Maundy Thursday. Araw ng Kagitingan was previously called Bataan Day, due to Bataan’s relevance in World War 2.

Draft no. 2 - Lenten Season

Image
The Lenten season is an important religious observance to the Christian Filipinos because it is a season to reflect on the suffering of Christ.      Lent of kwaresma is the season where the Filipino people set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ’s passion, suffering, death, burial, and resurrection. It begins on Ash Wednesday, which is the practice of blessing ashes made from palm branches that came from Palm Sunday and placing them on the forehead of the devotee in the form of a cross. It lasts about 40 days. The word Lent is a shortened form of the old English word lencten, which means “spring season”. Thus why the Lenten season happens before Easter.      Some Filipinos will choose to fast during this season on Ash Wednesday until God Friday, and eat only one meal a day. However, others will practice abstaining from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent. During this season, people will also partake ...

Draft no.4 - Vigan City Fiesta Celebration in the New Normal

Image
Vigan City Fiesta Celebration in the New Normal      It is important to celebrate and have fun, but unfortunately, it doesn’t come without its risks.      The new normal is a burden we all have to deal with, and is also limits us to be able to properly celebrate fiestas and whatnot. I understand that it is an important tradition and celebration to many, but to be safe, I don’t think it is worth the risk of still getting the virus.      However, it is still possible but only if people follow the proper safety precautions, such as getting vaccinated, wearing a facemask, making sure to wash their hands, and trying to stay a distance away from other people.     If you can avoid it, then it is probably best to, in order to keep safe. It is still possible to celebrate a fiesta at home.
